A new study out of Chicago reinforces what I have suggested in the past and that is that spending too much time preparing to take the ACT is not beneficial. The study found, in part, that studying to much was not beneficial because it took time away from studying the broad content knowledge that students need to know to do well on the ACT.

This is not to say that a student should go in cold to the ACT and just see what happens. At the very least the student should have reviewed the instructions of the exam before taking the test so as to not waste time reading instructions the day of the exam. I also suggest that a student take at least one practice exam just to get some level of comfort with taking this type of test. However, spending a great deal of time in review for the ACT is probably not beneficial.

The SAT is more susceptible to test preparation and I will often recommend that a student do more test preparation for the SAT if they have chosen to take that test. However, this is a point os diminishing return where spending too much time, even on the SAT, is not beneficial.

Some tips how to find the best disability lawyer

When choosing your attorney for whatever reason, spend some time doing this and not just pick the first one that comes up in the list as research has indicated. This is even more important if you need a disability lawyer owing to the highly specialized field of law they are in. Any case that is brought before the court which may involve large organizations will need to have someone specially trained; when a case involves the Social Services Administration for example, their assistance will be invaluable. Disability law is a highly specialized area which means that an attorney dealing with general problems may miss points that a disability lawyer will see immediately; general practice attorneys probably would not be up to the task and because of this they could lose the case.

Often these cases are related to benefits that have been withdrawn from a claimant and this is where the proper legal representation really comes into play. Go online and research local and national companies if necessary, to find your lawyer, then follow the link to their website; you should also be able to check the credentials of the company they are working for. Past case histories may also be available to inspect; however, you could always ask friends or work colleagues if they can recommend a reputable lawyer. Consider your recruitment of a suitable disability lawyer the same as choosing your physician; you need to choose one that you feel you can trust.

You want someone with at least five to seven years disability law experience; at least three of those years should have been spent practicing in your state. You need a disability lawyer who specializes in the area required who has experience in social security law or disability insurances and long term disability insurance; with the majority of his or her work in this field of law. A working relationship like this also depends on truthfulness plus regular and complete communication between the parties. At the start you may have to see a few attorneys if you want to have a realistic chance of winning your case because finding one you trust might not happen the first time.

You may wish, if you do not feel confident, asking a friend or relative to go along with you as an unbiased advisor. Although it is not uncommon for attorneys to waive the legal fees on initial consultations, their time is still important and it will be a sign of your respect if you are well prepared for the interview just as they will be. Honesty from the disability lawyer is paramount if it is to proceed so you need to be clear on this point especially when it comes to the chances of success; if the relationship is to work there must be truthfulness between the both of you. Whilst it may seem like a drawn out process, it is necessary if you want to find the right attorney so good luck.

This time of year I get many phone calls from parents and students who are panicking because the student didn’t get accepted to any colleges or can’t afford any college to which they were accepted. Usually this results from having applied only to colleges that were a reach or without fully understood college financial aid. Either way, the question is, what do we do now?

One resource that I refer families to is the NACAC space availability survey that each year lists the colleges that are still accepting applications at this time of year. The student can search by state to find what colleges in a particular state might still have room for them to attend. While this is a great resource for the student who hasn’t been accepted any where else, financial aid at many of these schools is very limited and paying for college can still be a challenge.

I generally advise families to look at all options if there is no acceptable college choice at this time of year. Students might consider taking a gap year if they have a strong academic record but just aimed too high in this competitive college market. For students with a less stellar academic record, attending a community college may be a good option to establish the student’s ability to engage in college level work. There are also options for a post graduate program which is basically an additional year of high school to give the student a chance to improve their academic record or focus on a more realistic list of colleges to which to apply.

The options for next year for students seeking a college at this time are not always as attractive as they might have been with more planning, but there are almost always options for a student to consider.

Here is part 2 in our series on online associate degrees.

Many of the classes you take in your first two years of college are your foundational courses. This is true whether you are pursuing an online Christian degree or a degree from a community college. These foundational courses, such as English 101, History 101, etc. carry the same weight no matter where you earn them. If your goal is a master's degree, you will want to spend some time in a traditional classroom, but you can begin online. For basics, however, an associate degree online can be a really good idea. An online degree is not for everyone, and you will need to have a few things certain qualities to be successful. You need to be a self-starter, an independent learner, and someone with the intellectual resources to figure things out without a lot of help. In other words, an associate degree online isn't the right choice for everyone. You should be honest with yourself and figure out if it is right for you. Otherwise, you are just simply wasting time and money.

Part 3 will be out in a few days.

One of the issues that often comes up when I am talking with parents is when their son or daughter should start the college admissions process. Of course the answer varies but students generally should start thinking about the first stages of the process as high school freshman. As freshman, students need to be aware of the courses they are taking in high school and be aware that most colleges consider grades from all four years of high school.

Most colleges look at the academic courses taken in high school as the biggest factor in deciding who will be admitted. Ideally, students should consider taking four years of classes in the five academic areas of English, math, social studies, science and foreign languages. In deciding which classes to take in each of these areas the student should try to challenge themselves while being reasonable in their capabilities. If a student is not as strong in math, for instance, pushing to get through calculus may not be necessary. On the other hand, if the student is an aspiring engineer, not having calculus will be a serious impediment to that goal.

Since colleges prefer to see four years of the study in the academic subjects, planning your course work as an incoming freshman is necessary. For those students who may be considering a selective college, it is even more important to have four years of study in each of the five academic subjects.

Students considering selective colleges should also be considering whether they should be taking SAT Subject Tests and if so when. If your high school offers biology as a freshman then taking one of the Biology Subject Tests may be appropriate at the end of freshman year.

Now if you are a sophomore or junior that haven’t thought about any of the issues surrounding college admissions, don’t panic. But because there are many issues that should be considered to make sure you find the right college for your needs, now would be a good time to start getting involved.

Here is a college admissions time line for helping students plan what needs to be completed to keep on track for a successful application to college.

    * time consuming education seminars

    * heavy schedules

    * increasing demand on staff

and more.

These pressures affect patient care and treatment outcomes. Patient Education Systems were developed to overcome these challenges and help health care specialists provide better care for their patients.

Research studies assert the need of convenient and effective web-based educational platforms for patients

Health specialists need methods to provide education to their patients. The best proven solution is a web-based educational platform that produces consistently high levels of learning retention. Listed below are just a few research excerpts that demonstrate the advantages of using this advanced educational approach.

Computer-based patient education has been shown to be very effective in improving knowledge and clinical outcomes.

Congratulations! You have been accepted to the program of your choice! You future looks bright! But what will it take to successfully complete your master’s degree? Let us break this down into eight important steps. But heading back to school can be a long-term commitment, and often entails months and months of effort. There are some things you can do to make your time in school more worthwhile, rewarding, and expedited.

Step 1: Create a Program of study early in your program. Many masters programs required at least 36 credit hours but double check with your university. Most schools will also have a program of study available for you to fill out. Be sure to also take at least the minimum number of credit hours or some programs may automatically drop your enrollment thinking you have elected to discontinue. Look at the projected course offerings so that you can plan ahead.

Step 2. Complete your course work. And plan your course load carefully! Don’t take on more than you think you can handle. Your advisor will be there to assist you in the course of the program. It is good practice to meet with your advisor at least once each term to examine your progress and to plan ahead.

Step 3: Choose a committee if it your program requires a thesis, or a master’s research project. The committee will guide you in completing your program successfully.

Step 4: Learn more about your new career: While in the program, learn more about the new profession or career you will be embarking on. This could be in the form of internships, research assistant, through your courses, or conducting your own research.

Step 5: Write and defend a thesis. This is where your committee will work with you to develop a quality product. It’s a challenging task but also one that is rewarding. Start out by outlining your proposed topic, methods, theory, and procedures for the completing the thesis. Some programs may require you to write a comprehensive exam in lieu of or in addition to the thesis. Be sure to study for that as well.

Step 6: Start looking at job postings. Prepare your portfolio, which can include your resume, artifacts, credentials and other examples that showcase your best self. It is never to early to start looking. Keep a list of potential jobs and ensure that you are receiving the skills and knowledge from your program. Don’t wait till after graduation to start applying for jobs. After all, that’s why you started the master’s degree, right?

Step 7: Apply for graduation. At some point during your program of study, apply for graduation. Be sure to check the deadlines. Some come up very early in the program, and you certainly do not want to miss that.

Some options to consider are accelerated and online programs options that are especially important for adults with families and jobs, non-traditional scheduling, possibility of transferring credits. Although completing your degree quickly may be important to you, be sure to check the quality of the school you are planning to attend. Be sure it is accredited. At the end of the journey, there soon will be a light at the end of the tunnel!

Wharton Business School in the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is one of the best and most recognized schools of business in the United States. It is, in fact, the very first American business school to be developed. Wharton is a highly respected academic institution for would-be businessmen and entrepreneurs-in-training. It is also the institution of choice for many beginners in business who want to learn from some of the best instructors in the world.

Early history
Wharton Business School began as The Wharton School of Finance and Economy in 1881, actually the first school of business in the world. It was founded by Joseph Wharton, a philanthropist and industrialist in Philadelphia. Wharton had built his empire focusing on industrial metallurgy, running both the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and the American Nickel Company.

Wharton had dreamt of building a school that will educate and develop students for future jobs as leaders in both business and the government. As an academic institution, the Wharton School was the very first to publish textbooks in business, the first to establish an entrepreneurship center, the first to create a program for students in international management, the first to establish a Master’s program in real estate and healthcare, the first to develop a program for executive development and the first to establish a research center.

The Wharton School symbol, the anvil, is a homage to its founder’s contributions to the industry of metal and metal works.

Wharton Business School academics

The academic programs available in the Wharton Business School include:

Undergraduate Program

The four-year undergraduate program has a total of 37 courses, all of which allow a student to earn a degree in Bachelor of Science in Economics. The courses include, among others, subjects in accounting, finance, informational management and marketing.

MBA Program
The MBA Program at Wharton is one of the most famous in the U.S. and around the world. It is one of the few masteral in business programs that allow students to create their own major, individualized according to their desired courses of study and preferences. All they have to do is complete a core curriculum for their first year and then proceed to complete the master’s program according to their goals and interests.

The highest honor in the MBA Program is called the Palmer Scholar, which is conferred to the graduating class’ top 5%. Students who complete the first year of their MBA program with the highest cumulative GPA are given the Ford Fellowship.

Doctoral Program
The Doctoral Program at Wharton Business School offers 12 fields of specialization. This program is full-time and awards successful students with a PhD instead of a DBA that other programs offer. The program will require at least 4 years to complete and includes specializations such as Business & Public Policy, Statistics, Real Estate, Insurance & Risk Management, Finance and Ethics & Legal Studies, among others. Students entering the Doctoral Program are funded.

Students and Alumnae
The Wharton Alumni network boasts of over 81,000 members spread across more than 140 countries. To date, there are 82 alumni clubs often participating in the annual reunion, along with Global Alumni Forums. Some of the more famous Wharton Business School graduates include many of the presidents, CEOs and chairman of the top companies in the world, business and political leaders around the world and academic pioneers.

Admissions
The admissions policy at Wharton is one of the toughest and most selective. Student applicants will be required to have excellent scores in GMAT, high GPA and a list of credentials usually considered essential for admission.

Generally, applications to Wharton Business School are accepted using two methods: the paper format and online through www.wharton.upenn.edu. Application requirements to different programs may vary.
